Thousands of excited Billy Joel fans will have been disappointed to learn that he has recently postponed the start of his tour by 4 months. However, while they may be upset to be missing out on seeing him live, his supporters have been more concerned about the 75 year old singer’s health.
Many worried fans have been asking what disease Billy Joel has, but according to the announcement, it’s a recent surgery that has put the breaks on his tour. He requires physiotherapy to fully recover, and is choosing to do this at home with his regular doctors rather than undergo a strenuous tour schedule at the same time.
A statement from the Piano Man himself reads:
“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”
He is expected to make a full recovery, so why are some people so concerned about him having a disease?
“A Medical Condition”
The news was announced via Billy Joel’s official Instagram page, and the wording is what set the rumour mill whirring.
According to the post, Joel is having to reschedule due to “a medical condition”.
This is very vague, and vagueness always sounds ominous. Has anyone ever sent you a message saying “We need to talk” with no further information? Then you know exactly what I mean.

This lack of detail makes people think that something is being hidden, and while technically that is true, it’s not necessarily something sinister. Joel may just prefer to keep the specifics private. Heck, it might even be something embarrassing!
The fact is, no one except Billy Joel, his doctor, and perhaps those close to him know the details of what his surgery was for. We can speculate all we like, throwing out possibilities as varied as having a tumour removed to having a third nipple removed, we just don’t know.
Whatever the details, the fact he is planning to be on the road again just 4 months later, at his age, is a good sign.
The Uptown Girl singer loves performing live, so it will take more than a medical procedure to keep him off the stage.
Rescheduled Dates
The even better news is that all tickets already purchased will be valid for the new dates, so fans just need to be patient, they don’t have to battle for tickets again. Refunds will be offered to anyone unable to make the adjusted dates.
The new dates and venues are as follows:
- November 15, 2025 – Detroit – Billy Joel & Stevie Nicks – Ford Field
- March 14, 2026 – Toronto – Billy Joel – Rogers Centre
- April 10, 2026 – Syracuse – Billy Joel & Sting – Syracuse JMA Wireless Dome
- May 22, 2026 – Salt Lake City – Billy Joel & Sting – Rice Eccles Stadium
- June 6, 2026 – Edinburgh – Billy Joel – Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium
- June 20, 2026 – Liverpool – Billy Joel – Anfield Stadium
- July 3, 2026 – Charlotte – Billy Joel & Sting – Charlotte Bank of America Stadium
- TBD – Milwaukee – Billy Joel & Sting – American Family Field
Venues hosting the tour from 5th July 2025 onwards are still going ahead as planned, and tickets are still on sale.
Brits are out of luck though as the Edinburgh and Liverpool shows are already sold out, and those are his only UK dates – unless a spattering of people can no longer make it, of course.
So, he doesn’t have a disease, he had surgery, and the tour isn’t cancelled, but some dates have been postponed.
